iPads in Education
The iPads have been updated with iOS5 which means that the browser for surfing the web is faster and now features tab browsing. We have also installed more apps on all the iPads which makes the device even more powerful than before. Want to learn more? See you on Monday after school in the Computer lab.

The first Tech Tuesday session was setting up Grade Book for Senior Years teachers in FAWeb. If you are unable to attend sessions of interest, feel free to make arrangements to meet with me one on one. There are also support files and videos in our School Moodle system.
What is this thing called Moodle? Tuesday: September 21st Location: Senior Computer Lab
The word Moodle was originally an acronym for Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment, which is mostly useful to programmers and education theorists. It's also a verb that describes the process of lazily meandering through something, doing things as it occurs to you to do them, an enjoyable tinkering that often leads to insight and creativity. As such it applies both to the way Moodle was developed, and to the way a student or teacher might approach studying or teaching an online course. Anyone who uses Moodle is a Moodler.
This session is for faculty who want to know what some of the possibilities a class Moodle Site can offer.
Introduction to Google Apps for Education Tuesday: September 28- 4:00 PM Location: Senior Computer Lab
SJR will be using Google Apps for Education starting this fall. All students and faculty will have an account. Want a preview of this easy to use "cloud computing" suite? A great way to develop collaborative projects with your students. See you Tuesday. Please e-mail Phil if you would like a test account for the half hour session. Introduction to SMART Boards Tuesday: September 28- 4:00 PM Location: Sherri's Math Class
If you are new to the SMART Board, this intro session is intended to get you started and answer some of your questions about using a SMART Board you may have.

This Tuesday's Session: SJR’s Google Docs for Education – An Introduction
Last year, Roland and I began "testing" the use of a SJR controlled version of Google Docs aka Google Apps for Education. Google Apps for Education allows us more control of what features students can use and with whom they can collaborate.
"Google Apps" accounts for all students and faculty have now been created for the 2010-2011 school year. This will enable all students to access the collaborative features of Google Docs.
The new system will have the following name: learners.sjr.mb.ca
Student email will be migrating from the old portal version to mail.learners.sjr.mb.ca.
Email addresses in the system will look something like this: taylop@learners.sjr.mb.ca
The new system is accessible at http://mail.learners.sjr.mb.ca
The docs portion of Apps for Education will be accessible at http://docs.learners.sjr.mb.ca
Please join me for a half hour overview of the features.
